Happy Spring! This spring has sure come in like a lion it seems to be going out like one too! I don’t know about you but I am ready for sunshine, warm weather and summer!
Our January Laughter Yoga and Literature event was a lot of fun! We received ideas on how to incorporate breathing techniques into our reading/literature blocks thanks to Pat Braun. Congratulations to Karleen Yohnka the winner of the yoga mat! Karen Dannenhauer won a yoga DVD.
February held the Exploring Careers through Literacy event in conjunction with the Exploration Station. Thanks to the wonderful members of our local community who donated their time to share their expertise with the children of our community. The children loved it and left with several free books including many Illinois Reads titles.

The 2014 Illinois Reading Conference was a blast!. TRRC walked away with first place for the hall of council display. What a great honor! This conference had over 3,000 attendees. Were you lucky enough to be one of them? The presenters were fabulous and the amount of information shared and learned was phenomenal.
Congratulations to Lisa Homerding, a kindergarten teacher in Milford and a TRRC member; she was awarded a $500 classroom library from the Pamela J. Farris Rural Classroom Library award. Lisa will receive her library in April. She was recognized at the IRC luncheon with renowned author Stephanie Harvey.
I cannot wait until the next IRC conference …this fall in October 2014. There will be no more spring reading conferences as requested by many members due to state testing. After this fall conference, Harvesting the Fruits of Literacy, the conference will be moving from Springfield to Peoria for the Fall of 2015. Lots of changes ahead but hopefully all great things.
Happy spring, Happy Easter and Happy Reading,
Julie Steinke, President
Two Rivers Reading Council
